Used Car Inspection Checklist
Use this checklist alongside a professional inspection when possible.
Exterior
- Look for mismatched paint, panel gaps and signs of previous repairs.
- Inspect windshield, windows, lights and mirrors.
- Check all four tires for tread and uneven wear.
Engine bay
- Look for visible fluid leaks.
- Check fluid levels and obvious signs of neglected maintenance.
- Look for damaged hoses, belts or wiring.
Interior
- Test lights, windows, locks, climate controls and infotainment.
- Check seatbelts and warning lights.
- Look for water damage or unusual odors.
Test drive
- Listen for unusual noises.
- Check steering, braking and transmission behavior.
- Confirm the vehicle tracks normally and does not show obvious vibration.
